Artist's Description

Situated in the picturesque locale of Johns Island, South Carolina, the Angel Oak Tree stands as a remarkable testament to the resilience of nature. This awe-inspiring natural wonder has withstood the test of time, estimated to be between 400 and 500 years old. Its towering stature reaches an impressive height of 66.5 feet (20 meters), while its girth measures an astounding circumference of 28 feet (8.5 meters). The sprawling branches of this magnificent tree provide a generous shade that blankets an astonishing 17,200 square feet, with the longest branch stretching an impressive 187 feet.

Despite the undeniable allure and age of the Angel Oak, there remains a lingering debate regarding its true age. While some enthusiasts believe it to be an astonishing 1,500 years old, the majority of experts lean towards more conservative estimates, which are deemed to be more accurate.

Irrespective of its precise age, the Angel Oak continues to captivate the hearts of all who encounte...

About Steve Rich

Steve Rich

Growing up as a Navy kid, I bounced around the East Coast before settling in Aiken, South Carolina in 1966. The warm climate was a big draw for my family. Speaking of family, I am the oldest of five and have been happily married for 44 years. My two daughters are both educated, married, and they are always there to lend a hand. I am also a proud grandparent of three little ones who keep me busy and happy. After working at the Savannah River Site for 37.5 years, I am now retired and enjoying my hobbies. I love working on home projects, exploring the backroads of South Carolina, camping, and taking photos of the great outdoors. Speaking of photography, my favorite quote is The best resides within the photographer, not the camera. We develop...
