Description
Chaos among a Flamboyance of Flamingos.
Flamingos from left to right
Left, this Flamingo photobombed my shot, next flamingo is Mom sitting on the nest. The top right Flamingo is Dad Flamingo, bottom right is Mom #2, she ended up sitting on the nest after Mom was given a break. I googled a collective/flock of Flamingos, an interesting word for a large group which we do not have at the zoo. Dad top right would often bring water to Mom while she sits on the nest. This was the case yesterday, Dad was giving Mom water to allow her to remain hugged to the nest.
The collective noun to describe a gathering of flamingos is “flamboyance,” an appropriate term for these colorfully feathered creatures. They flock together by the thousands on salt flats, lagoons, lakes, and swamps around the world, where they can filter-feed for shrimp, algae, and insects.
