On October 16, 2020, I received some disappointing news - the beloved Folly Beach Pier in South Carolina would be closing in just two days for the next two years. However, there is a silver lining - a new pier is on the horizon! As an avid photographer, this pier has always been my go-to spot for capturing stunning sunrise shots. Unfortunately, ship worms have caused significant damage, resulting in a $14 million project that will take 28 months to complete.

The Folly Beach Pier is a true gem of the South Carolina coastline, offering visitors a chance to experience breathtaking views of the Edge of America. This 1,045-ft. fishing pier boasts a tackle shop and is a bustling destination for those seeking scenic ocean views.

Growing up as a Navy kid, I bounced around the East Coast before settling in Aiken, South Carolina in 1966. The warm climate was a big draw for my family. Speaking of family, I am the oldest of five and have been happily married for 44 years. My two daughters are both educated, married, and they are always there to lend a hand.
