As the sun began to dip below the horizon, a pontoon boat was parked at one of Lake Thurmond's favorite restaurants, creating a picturesque scene. The Plum Branch Yacht Club, formerly known as Fishing Village, provided the perfect backdrop for another stunning evening in South Carolina.
As a child, I spent countless hours skiing on this very lake, and last night was a chance to relive some of those cherished memories. The sunsets on Lake Thurmond are truly breathtaking, and it's no wonder why it was once known as Clarks Hill Lake.
As I sat there, taking in the beauty of the moment, a memory from years ago was rekindled. While camping near the water's edge, I could hear the distant conversations of others and the sound of boats traveling across the lake. It was a reminder that sound carries well on the lake, and even now, it still does.
Growing up as a Navy kid, I bounced around the East Coast before settling in Aiken, South Carolina in 1966. The warm climate was a big draw for my family. Speaking of family, I am the oldest of five and have been happily married for 44 years. My two daughters are both educated, married, and they are always there to lend a hand. I am also a proud grandparent of three little ones who keep me busy and happy. After working at the Savannah River Site for 37.5 years, I am now retired and enjoying my hobbies. I love working on home projects, exploring the backroads of South Carolina, camping, and taking photos of the great outdoors.
