When I first arrived this morning at the Riverbanks Zoo in Columbia South Carolina, I did not see anything. I finally saw the baby nestled under Mommy flamingo's wing. After a few moments, the baby emerged but never left Mommy's side. Welcome to our world.

Growing up as a Navy kid, I bounced around the East Coast before settling in Aiken, South Carolina in 1966. The warm climate was a big draw for my family.
