Description
Introducing "Little Blue," the former cottage that once stood on the southern end of Hunting Island, South Carolina. This quaint structure, perched on pilings and overlooking the vast Atlantic Ocean, was recently demolished, despite surviving Hurricane Matthew's wrath in October of 2016. The fate of Little Blue was sealed in September of that year, when State Park Service director Phil Gaines announced its impending demolition.
Hunting Island, a secluded semitropical barrier island spanning 5,000 acres, is located 15 miles east of Beaufort, South Carolina, nestled between Harbor Island and Fripp Island. Since 1935, it has been designated as a state park, attracting visitors from far and wide.
During my visit to Hunting Island, I was struck by the beauty of Little Blue, and felt compelled to capture its essence through my art. Despite the darkness of the morning, I painted the tree and downed tree with light, creating a stunning representation of this beloved structure.
While Little Blue may no longer stand on Hunting Island, its memory lives on, serving as a reminder of the island's rich history and natural beauty.

Love the framing, and do not understand the demolition.
Steve Rich replied:
Thank you Cheri, the structure had become unstable and posed a hazard to beachgoers.
