Description
Welcome to Strom Thurmond Dam, also known as J. Strom Thurmond Reservoir at the federal level and Clarks Hill Lake by the state of Georgia. This impressive reservoir is located at the border between Georgia and South Carolina in the Savannah River Basin.
Before the test, we were greeted with clear blue skies and a serene river. However, as the test began, the weather took a turn for the worse. The skies became overcast, the wind picked up, the temperature dropped, and the sound of rushing water filled the air. Despite these challenges, the test proceeded smoothly.
As the gates were opened, we witnessed the initial release of brownish water, which quickly cleared up. The entire test lasted for approximately two hours, starting at 1:20 pm and finishing at 3:20 pm. Despite running a bit late, the experience was truly awe-inspiring.
Overall, Strom Thurmond Dam is a remarkable feat of engineering and a vital resource for the surrounding communities. Its impressive size and power are a testament to the ingenuity and determination of those who built it.
